    Hmmm… demo doesn’t seem to work in any of my browsers (Safari, Firefox, Flock…) – only see the sidebar on the left…

    This theme requires javascript to be on. The sidebar you are seeing is the starting point, click on things and you will see slider work. If not, you probably have javascript turned off on your browser.

    [...] The free wordpress theme Slider from KarmaDude is exactly that. First, I’m diggin on the color – a rich, lush chocolate brown which I just don’t think you see enough of when it comes to web pages. The ’sliding action’ as each block is drawn via javascript is nicely done – interesting without falling into the ‘annoying’ trap. Everything looks lovely whether viewed in Firefox or IE and in general it’s the type of theme I’d like to see a lot more of. [...]

    CLAUDIO, yes, I am currently working on a lighter version. It will be available early next week.

    This is a very pretty theme, but it definitely doesn’t load up in any OS X browsers for me either, and javascript is on. I just get the left menu.

  • KarmaDude
    Mar 6, 2007 | 9:05 pm

    JONATHAN, I am not really sure why the javascript would not work in an OS X browser. In this theme, by default, the first thing you see is the left menu. Try clicking on things, and see if you see anything different.

    this is pretty cool, any chance of creating a plugin with the sidebar functionality? id love that on my site but using my current theme, or maybe you could give me some pointers as to how to edit things in the download to get it on my site?

  • KarmaDude
    Mar 7, 2007 | 3:53 pm

    ALEX, when I get a chance I will post a little tutorial on how to take apart the sidebar and reuse it.

    The idea for a plugin is a good one, I will look into that as well.

    This is a great theme.

    How can I add an author archive message similar to the ones on the monthly archives and the search results page?

  • sam
    Mar 7, 2007 | 7:03 pm

    Also, it screws up when the search returns no results!

  • KarmaDude
    Mar 7, 2007 | 9:25 pm

    SAM, I have fixed the issue with the search page. The latest download, has the fix. Thank you for pointing out the issue.

    Regarding how to add an author archive message, are you looking to add an author archives page or do you want it to behave like how the monthly archives results behave; have everything displayed in the first column?

  • sam
    Mar 8, 2007 | 4:51 am

    Thanks for the swift fix.

    I’ve changed the author info on single.php to a link using the_author_posts_link();

    Upon following this link I’d linke a little sentence below the results in the left colum like how the monthly archives results behave.

    thats cool, i look forward to the tutorial and plug-in!
    @ jonathan and benp, ive worked out that you start with the left sidebar, then when you click on a link, you get the middle column, and only if you click to see comments for that post/page do you see the third column/right sidebar. :-)

    No, I understand what should b happening. Having tried the demo, it works fine on other sites. I’m thinking this may be a conflict w/ a javascript call in a plugin? In the status bar, when I hover any of the javascript links, this is what i see:

    Go to “javascript:;”

    Is that what I should be seeing? I know nothing about javascript, but I’m used to seeing something more down there than “:;”

    I’ll try disabling any javascript-employing plugins, see what I can ascertain.

  • jonathan
    Mar 10, 2007 | 7:20 am

    I’m not 100% sure, but I think the culprit may be Link Harvest.

    Do you have any idea why some browsers show no bullets by the lists in the navigation menu (Archives, Pages etc) and others do? Just different HTML support?

    Mar 10, 2007 | 8:53 am

    Me again! OK, I figured out the ul thing, very easy, but two final things. In webkit based browsers, there always seems to be a little bit of unrequired vertical scroll. I don’t see this with Firefox and Camino. And, would I be right in saying that Lightbox won’t work with this?

  • KarmaDude
    Mar 11, 2007 | 1:01 am

    JONATHAN, in the latest version of Slider, v1.0.3, I have removed the use of Javascrip:;. See if this update resolves the Javascript issue you are experiencing.

    Regarding Ligthbox, in the latest version of Slider, I have removed the conflict between jQuery and prototype. So, Lightbox should work with Slider.

    Thank you for pointing out these issues with the theme, let me know if the fixes resolve your issues.

    Whilst transferring your new 1.0.3 code to my css I’ve found a fair few missing closing tags. Mainly li tags in the postsSmall div and a few h6 tags elsewhere.

    I’ve also managed to have child pages listed under a collapsible parent sidebar tab using for example:

    <h5 id="projectsLink">Projects</h5>
    <div id="projectsContent">
      <ul>
       <?php wp_list_pages("child_of=1&title_li="); ?>
      </ul>
    </div>

    Currently, however, I’m hard coding all the parent pages into sidebar.php. Is there a way to auto detect parent pages and output them in a syntax compatible with the slider nav as some of my authors won’t have theme editing capabilities.

    I’ve also set up the sidebar to be consistent throughout the site and made use of a recent posts plugin

    Thanks again.

    Sam, thanks for pointing out the missing tags. Regarding your question about detecting the parent page, you can use $post->ID for the parent id

    wp_list_pages("child_of="
    .$post->ID."&title_li=");

    @Kellee, in sidebar.php file locate div tag with id flickr_badge_wrapper, and insert your flickr badge script.
